June is National Indigenous History Month

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) celebrates National Indigenous History Month in June, honouring the diverse histories, distinctive cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in building healthy, vibrant communities.

National Indigenous History Month provides an opportunity to reflect on and connect with Indigenous people to learn and celebrate the diversity within Indigenous communities, while also acknowledging their deep connections to the land where we live, work, and gather.

The summer solstice, June 21, which holds deep cultural significance in Indigenous communities also marks National Indigenous Peoples Day. This day has long been a time of celebration for Indigenous communities, who gather to share traditions through music, dance, storytelling, food, art, and ceremony.

Through its funding, OTF has invested over $82 million since 2015 in initiatives that support Indigenous communities and programs - from language revitalization, food sovereignty and traditional arts to culturally grounded supports, skills training, and environmental stewardship.
