The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Statement on Anti-Black Racism
On behalf of our employees and volunteers, I want to express how deeply saddened we are by the most recent tragic deaths here in Canada and the United States. We recognize that this is a profound moment of grief, anger and disappointment, particularly for our Black colleagues, volunteers, grantees and community members. These events are a reminder of the ongoing realities of anti-Black racism and the devastating impact it is having on individuals, families, and communities.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities. We recognize that there is no place for anti-Black racism or any form of oppression if we are to achieve this mission. People cannot flourish and live healthy full lives in their communities when there is inequality.
We know that the underlying issues are systemic, institutional, and longstanding. We reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and acting in ways that address anti-Black racism.
