Youth Opportunities Fund to improve social and economic wellbeing for GTA youth

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is providing grants to support 20 initiatives that will help youth facing multiple barriers to economic and social wellbeing in the Greater Toronto Area.

The YOF provides grants and capacity building supports to youth-led initiatives, including grassroots groups and community-based organizations, to break down barriers and help young people succeed. The program is funded by the Ontario government and administered by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).  The YOF is one of the initiatives under Ontario’s Youth Action Plan and benefits young people who are between 12 and 25 years old.

This marks the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s second round of YOF grants and builds on the success of investments made in 2013-2014, when 22 projects received funding

YOF is focused on supporting youth who face barriers such as:

  • Racialized youth
  • Newcomer youth
  • Lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, two-spirit and queer (LGBTTQ) youth
  • Youth with disabilities or special needs between the ages of 12 -29
  • Aboriginal youth (i.e. First Nation, Métis or Inuit youth)
  • Youth who are in or leaving care
  • Youth who are in low-income situations or come from low-income families
  • Youth who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school
  • Youth who could become or are in conflict with the law

“Our government is pleased to work with the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help at-risk youth succeed. Through the Youth Opportunities Fund and our Youth Action Plan we are giving young people access to supports and opportunities that will help them make positive choices and reach their full potential.” —Tracy MacCharles, Minister of Children and Youth Services

“We are excited to be working with local and grassroots groups towards a second year of investments for the youth-serving sector in the GTA. Through direct investments in youth-led initiatives, we are helping to build a strong, responsive youth-serving sector in the region.” — Dr. Dev Sainani, Board Chair, Ontario Trillium Foundation
