Celebrating Thriving Franco-Ontarian Communities
Every year on September 25, Franco-Ontarian Day offers an opportunity to celebrate the people, communities, and organizations that help French language and culture thrive across Ontario.
Annually, this day marks the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag at the University of Sudbury in 1975. Featuring the fleur-de-lis and the trillium, the green and white flag has become a symbol of Franco-Ontarian identity, pride and resilience.
Francophone communities play an important role in shaping the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our province. From vibrant cultural initiatives and community gathering spaces to programs that support youth, families, seniors, and newcomers, French-speaking Ontarians continue to strengthen communities in every region of the province.
As Ontario's francophone population continues to evolve and diversify, Franco-Ontarian Day is also a chance to celebrate the many voices and experiences that enrich French-speaking communities across the province.
With support from OTF funding, more than 1.5 million French-speaking Ontarians have access to programming in their preferred language. OTF also provides its granting resources and supports in French and invests in projects that help Francophone organizations and communities grow, adapt, and create opportunities for future generations.
Since April 1, 2018, OTF has invested more than $35.5 million in initiatives that have benefited French-speaking Ontarians, a testament to our commitment to a thriving francophone Ontario.
