Gary is currently a senior managing partner with Bendale Property Management. From 1994 to 2000, Gary was elected and re-elected as a Mayor of City of Kingston. During his first term in office, City of Kingston was recognized by the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business as being one of the best cities in Canada in which to live and work, due in part to its commitment to heritage preservation and economic development.
Throughout his second term, Gary chaired the Mayor’s Summit on Economic Prosperity in 1998 and that same year, led the community through the only declared state of emergency in the region’s history: The Ice Storm of 1998. Gary was also a distinguished speaker at several international forums throughout the United States on Local Government Reform and Intergovernmental Relations as well as the Great Lakes Mayors’ Conference on water quality. He also chaired the local United Way campaign in the community during his second term in the office.
Gary is an active member of the community and his past and present activities include several professional and community organizations including Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario, Canadian Condominium Institute, United Way of Greater Kingston, Institute of Housing Management, Community Foundation of Greater Kingston, Kingston Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation and Kingston General Hospital Foundation Board. Gary was educated at Queen’s University and holds an Honours BA in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration from the School of Policy Studies.
