Transform the Sector

How can data transform the social sector?

While the answer to this question is not simple, international and Canadian thought leaders will gather in Toronto Thursday, February 23, 2017 to catalyze connections between local non-profit sector leaders and a global network of digital innovation practitioners, policymakers, and funders that will start the conversation.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is teaming up with the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society’s Digital Society Lab and Powered By Data to launch a new digital data conference for the social sector. Transform the Sector is a one-day conference about radically advancing the social sector’s impact through its use of digital data.

This will be the first stop on a Digital Impact World Tour that focusses on using digital data for social good. The tour will host conferences across the globe in China, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Brazil, India, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The goal of this conference and the world tour is to start the conversations in communities at the ground level to see how generating and using good data can benefit the public benefit sector.

In Ontario, the Foundation is striving to generate good practices. A digital mindset is a forward thinking and positive notion. However, government partners that champion this thinking are essential to make change.

At the Foundation, we have always strived to incorporate good data in our work, and it’s become an important part of our investment strategy, how we make decisions about awarding grants, and ultimately, we hope, the strength of our data will demonstrate the value of the work done by the organizations we fund.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation is proud to partner with Stanford’s Digital Civil Society Lab and Powered by Data as a part of our commitment to work with others towards digital transformation and outcomes-based philanthropy in Canada. Canadian non-profit organizations are increasingly dependent on digital data to inform their strategies and pursue their missions, and I’m glad our Foundation is supporting the digital capacity of Canada’s social sector via this one-of-a-kind conference.” - Andrea Cohen Barrack, CEO, OTF
