Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Business Analyst will provide value-added contributions to the operations and management of the Finance Department, with a key focus on modernizing the finance function and enabling more robust financial reporting using data and analytics.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Business Analyst will provide value-added contributions to the operations and management of the Finance Department, with a key focus on modernizing the finance function and enabling more robust financial reporting using data and analytics. 

Key Area of Responsibility: 
  • Lead the necessary analysis required to recommend and implement a new accounting system (we currently use Sage 100), and assess where integration with other internal systems is feasible and practical
  • Oversee the implementation of a new system, working with key stakeholders across the organization
  • Develop new business processes and amend internal policies where necessary
  • Develop all supporting materials for the new business processes, including training materials
  • Deliver training as required (some travel to regional offices might be required)
  • Develop and maintain cash forecasting tools to monitor and forecast short-term cash flow requirements
  • Work with others in the organization to develop and implement other reporting tools (e.g. charts, graphs) 
  • Act as Lead on other Finance Department system projects
  • Support the Director of Finance as needed for other department activities, including monthly reporting, cash management, investment management etc.
Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience in exploring/procuring new software and services to maximize automation wherever possible
  • Strong financial acumen, including excellent business knowledge and understanding of various aspects of business operations and financial reporting systems
  • Experience in managing organization-wide transformation activities
  • Knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations would be an asset
  • A “digital first” mindset to enable efficient business processes through the use of technology
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of data
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in the organization’s core competencies including accountability, agility and excellence

Experience and Education: 
  • Non-profit/public sector experience is an asset
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent, with a focus on accounting
  • Minimum 5-7 years accounting/finance experience
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP, particularly as they apply to Canadian charities)
  • Canadian Professional Accounting (CPA) designation or in the final stages is preferred
  • Superior ability in accounting software and Excel (pivot tables, lookups, if statements, financial models)
  • Broad-based financial management experience
  • Experience with transition from manual to integrated and automated processes/systems is preferred

Work Conditions:

  • 35-hour work week
  • Current processes/systems are manual.  We plan to automate in the next 6-12 months
